Sometimes, a person and an animal can look so alike, you might just think they’ve got the same soul. Professional animal photographer Gerrard Gethings’ latest project involves pairing people up with their cat lookalikes. The resemblance is uncanny and the portraits are magical.

The hair, the looks, the colors—they’re all chosen to mimic the same energy. And Gethings has done it perfectly. Scroll on down, upvote your fave photos, and let us know in the comments which cat-human pair you loved the most and why, dear Pandas.

While it would be wonderful if the people in the portraits were the felines’ owners, this isn’t the case. They’re actually models who were selected to match the photographed cats. It was a long casting process, but the results were definitely worth the effort! The photos have even been turned into a memory card game, ‘Do You Look Like Your Cat?’

This isn’t Gethings’ first rodeo. The London-based photographer had done a similar project before. Back in 2018, Gethings photographed people and their dog lookalikes.

“Everyone’s seen someone who looks like a dog. It’s been an idea forever. But I don’t think people have thought, ‘That person looks a lot like a cat.’ I suppose there’s a feline quality some people can have, but not in the same way. They don’t have huge beards, or things dogs have, like a center parting and long hair—easy matches. Cats are more difficult,” the photographer told The Guardian.

The photographer also told The Guardian that every single person that he approached for his project said ‘yes.’

“Some of them were a bit confused by the idea. But I’d already done it with the dogs, and cats are a lot better-looking than dogs, on the whole. It’s easier than saying, ‘You look like a French bulldog.’ If you say, ‘You look like a cat,’ I think people are quite flattered,” the photographer quipped.

One of Gethings’ favorite cat-human pairs is the one where both the cat and the man have white walrus mustaches.

Taking snaps of good boys and girls is relatively easy; cats, the proud animals that they are, are a whole different challenge. Gethings visited each cat at their home and drove all over the United Kingdom. Like a true pro, he came prepared with snacks and cat toys. However, even those weren’t enough to entice some of the cats to be photographed at first. Gethings truly has the patience and willpower of a saint.

Cats and dogs aren’t the only animals that Gethings has gotten in the crosshairs of his photographic lenses. He’s also photographed bumblebees, pigeons, cows, goat, and sheep. What’s more, the seasoned veteran has snapped photos of the pets of celebrities, such as Elle Macpherson.
